Nature’s Best Vegan Facial Masks

Ladies if you love a good pamper session but find it to fund an expensive trip to a spa, then you should try making your own face masks.  It’s quick, easy, cost-effective, and fun.  Face masks are an important step to clear healthy skin as they contain a lot of nutrients and ingredients at once.

And store-bought or spa face masks can contain lots of nasty chemicals or toxins that are actually bad for your skin. Thankfully, nature provides us with lots of effective alternatives for healthy skin that are gentle, cruelty-free and vegan; all of which can probably be found in our kitchens or pantries. You can make Nature’ Vegan Facial Masks in the comfort of your own home.

So ladies, open these kitchen cabinets, or pantry cupboards, gather your ingredient and let’s get started!

Oily Skin Vegan Face Mask

An easy to make face mask composed of strawberries, coconut oil, and kaolin clay is perfect for oily skin. Strawberries contain salicylic acid which breaks down dead skin cells, coconut moisturizes to prevent flakiness AND helps prevent acne with its anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties, while kaolin clay draws out impurities in the skin

The Recipe:

  • 4 strawberries
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil (melted)
  • 1/4 teaspoon white kaolin clay

Mash the four strawberries before stirring in coconut oil and kaolin clay.
Clean the skin and pat dry. Apply the paste onto damp skin and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with cool water and pat face dry.

Acne-prone Skin Vegan Face Mask

This DIY acne face mask recipe with banana, bicarbonate soda and turmeric can reduce breakouts. Bananas not only act as an astringent which balances oils in the skin but also nourishes and rejuvenates the skin. Bicarbonate soda pulls out oil and dirt from the pores and turmeric reduces inflammation and provides the skin with anti-microbial and anti-bacterial benefits.

The Recipe:

  • 1 banana (ripe)
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric

Mash the banana first before mixing the rest of the ingredients together.
Wash face and pat dry. Apply paste onto damp skin and leave for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off with cool water.

Make it a Combo

A great Alpstories product to combine this vegan mask would be our Tea Tree Oil Face Cream.

This facial cream that won’t clog or overwhelm your combination or oily skin. Tea tree oil has a wealth of properties including anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, toning and clarifying. It can help to clear sebum and debris from pores for purified skin without creating dry, tight or uncomfortable results.

Antioxidants and rich vitamin E from the carrot and sunflower in this formula are great for a boost of radiance, skin health, and plumper skin texture.

One of the most common tea tree oil uses is as a home remedy for acne.  Dilute a few drops of tea tree oil with 20 to 40 drops of witch hazel, and apply to the skin once or twice a day with a cotton swab!

Made with active ingredients Alpstories’ Tea Tree Oil Face Cream is an amazing vegan product that will compliment this facial mask.

All Skin Types Vegan Face Mask

Flaxseeds not only benefit individuals who eat them, but they can also benefit the skin when applied topically. Flaxseeds also provide a vegan alternative to egg whites. Before applying flaxseeds to the face, it is important to make sure that you are not allergic. Do a patch test on the inside of your arm if you’re not sure.

Grind flaxseeds into a blender to create flaxseed powder if you’re not using ground flaxseed. Soak ground flaxseed in 3 teaspoons of water for 15 minutes or until the mixture has a gooey, paste-like consistency. Clean the face and pat dry to retain dampness.

Apply the mixture onto the skin, avoiding the mouth and eye area. Allow the paste to dry completely and wash off with lukewarm water after 7 to 10 minutes. Use a wet washcloth to remove remnants of the mask. Next splash face with cold water, pat dry and apply moisturizer.

Oatmeal Odyssey

The idea of oatmeal as a face mask isn’t new, as it is a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant; as well as deeply hydrating. Oatmeal combined with dairy-free yogurt can restore your skins natural moisture and also heal scaring!

The Recipe:

  • ½ cup of rolled oats
  • ¼ cup of (dairy-free) yogurt
  • handful of blueberries

Blend the oats in a food processor until large grains remain and combine this mixture with the yogurt and blueberries. Once combined pulse it all together again and then apply to the face and neck. After 10 to 20 minutes, rinse off thoroughly and enjoy your soft, rejuvenated skin.

Chocolate Facial Pudding

Ladies, let’s talk avocado.  It seems that in the last year the world has gone crazy for avocado. Eating avocado is great for your body but did you know it also does wonders for your skin?! Avocado is one of my favorite foods and this face mask uses this ingredient to moisturize and cleanse. With the added bonus of containing cocoa powder to protect the skin this face mask is almost tempting to eat!

The Recipe:

  • 1 avocado
  • 2 Tbsp. of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbsp. of agave nectar

Mix all these delicious ingredients in a bowl until smooth and then simply apply to the face and neck (eating the leftovers). Once it has been on your skin for roughly 10 minutes, rinse off with warm water and pat down with a towel.

Bananas will nourish and revitalize dry skin as well as smoothen rough and aging skin. If you have acne-prone oily skin, you can use it topically for oil control and reduce further breakouts.  This DIY face mask recipe is perfect for reducing breakouts.

By adding ingredients such as bicarbonate of soda pulls out the dirt and oil from your pores and turmeric reduces inflammation of the skin.

The Recipe:

  • 1 banana
  • 1 tsp. bicarbonate of soda
  • ½ tsp. ground turmeric

Mash the banana on its own and then mix in the rest of the ingredients. Apply onto damp, clean skin and leave on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing it off with cool water.

These simple remedies provide an effective cruelty-free enhancement that everyone can benefit from. Vegan face masks require immediate use, although you may be able to store the products for a day or two in a tightly closed container in the refrigerator. Enjoy!
